LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersexual and Allies) people experience multiple barriers.

Legal equality in the world and focused on EU varies very strongly. Causing issues and supporting stigma in day-to-day activities of LGBTQIA+ people. Our work has a particular emphasis on equality and freedom from discrimination, on gender equality, on the rights to self-determination and support for “rainbow” families.

In health care the stigma related to their identities and sexual orientation. Some risk factors disproportionately affect intersectional populations including gay men of color, bisexual people, and transgender and gender non-conforming people. Mental health being, like minority stress, internalized or externalized homo/trans-negativity which then requires access to psychological support.

What is the aim of this working group?

Our working group LGBTQIA+ is about facilitating discussion and making policy proposals and ideas that will create inclusive social environments, health support, anti-discrimination policies and provide data to track progress.

About our working group chairperson Martina Bednar

My main day-to-day occupation is IT Architect, which basically means to design and transform complex customer processes supported by technological systems and automation. With previous experience in people management, sales and I am also part time self employed to follow my passions for smart home architectures.

Besides that, I am a working parent of 2 lovely girls and building a rainbow family as I am transgender with migration background, as such I am aware of the issues and responsibility which we carry for the LGBTQIA+ community.

Therefore, I am also engaging in Austrian politics and working in the Neos LGBTIQ working group and city politics. I am also a member of a Slovak non-profit rainbow family group Duhove rodiny and leading in my company an LGBTIQA+ employees group and engaging in cross-company exchange (in the commercial space).

Combining all my skills in project leading, complex problem solving, EU migration experience, politics influence and LGBTQIA+ experience I hoping to work towards equal LGBTQIA+ rights in EU.

If you are interested in participating in this working group, please send an email with your contact details to: wg-lgbtqi@elfr.eu and Martina will come back to you as soon as possible. Please put workinggroups@elfr.eu in CC. We are looking forward to your contribution!
